Kenny Atcheson is an author and international trainer/speaker based out of Las Vegas, Nevada.
Kenny enjoys helping people succeed and get more out of the hand with which they were dealt in life and in business.
Overcoming a humble beginning in growing up near the ill-fated PEPCON rocket plant in Gibson—a one-lane, semi-dirt, bumpy road with “a whole bunch of desert” in between Henderson and Las Vegas—Kenny learned to appreciate the value of hard work and dedication. Success is not through inheritance, nor is it an easy path laid out by others or because of handouts. Kenny does not believe in excuses.
Atcheson has used his speaking platform as a way to help people achieve their goals and outstanding success in several industries, from car dealerships to dermatologists, pest control to restaurants.
Beginning business and life lessons early
At around age 13, Atcheson launched ”Handy Kid” to make extra money. He wanted to use the skills that he learned from his construction-business dad to help people in the neighborhood. Kenny’s services were mostly projects around the house and to “fix stuff.” Before the days of computers, printers, and copy machines, Atcheson drew his own flyers individually to put in mailboxes and on front doors.
A few years later, Kenny again ventured into the entrepreneur business. As a member of the high school wrestling team, he had to sell candy bars to raise money. During a trip to a discount grocery store, he noticed large boxes of the same candy bars for sale. He quickly “did the math” and realized that he could make a tidy profit if he kept selling them after the wrestling season was over. He did. His ROI was 100 percent.
Kenny’s first payroll job was working with his dad who was then a foreman for a construction business. Beginning at age 14 (which was legal then) Kenny began as a laborer. Even in the 110-degree summer days, he dug ditches and carried lumber. Although he didn’t love at it at the time, Kenny has appreciated the work ethic learned from his dad and other, grown men who worked alongside him. He also credits his dad with developing perfectionist skills in himself.
After a stint in the restaurant business, Kenny went to school to learn to be an entrepreneur. He earned a business degree and went into real estate where he honed his skills in communication and speaking with people. He understood the exchange of ideas and learning about people themselves, one-on-one.
Kenny also knew that what he had learned “on the job” in so many arenas actually related to marketing, advertising, and influence in salesmanship; since then he has drawn on that knowledge and experience gained in order to make him the popular, sought-after speaker that he is.
In Kenny’s words:
“I love when I go to a business conference or a convention, whether I’m an attendee or the keynote speaker, and I get to mingle with and talk to people and learn about what’s going on in their lives and in their businesses.”
What makes Kenny Atcheson tick? In his words,” Being around people, getting stuff done, participating and making a contribution. I don’t like to sit around. I like helping people. I like the fact that I’m helping people who are doing extraordinary things.
“To me, starting a business is extraordinary. Entrepreneurs are so important in this world and in America. They drive the economy. They drive job growth. They innovate. Things are created because of entrepreneurs. I love that—and they’re people! They’re people just like any other people. They have families, and they need to provide for their families. It satisfies me that I’m able to help them to do all of those things on a variety of levels.”
